Term Definition
Denver clog
(or immobilizer clamp) Device that locks a wheel and thus immobilizes a article R311-1 du Code de la route ; soit essentiellement les poids lourds (camions et autocars), les voitures et camionnettes (véhicules personnels et véhicules utilitaires) et les deux-roues (deux-roues motorisés et vélos).">vehicle . The highway code precisely defines the conditions for immobilizing vehicles.
Charging station
Parking spaces equipped for charging electric vehicles.
Parking
For the Highway Code (Art. R110-2), it is the "immobilization of a vehicle on the road outside the circumstances characterizing the stop ". By adding off-street parking, a vehicle remains parked for around 95% of its time.
Abusive parking
"Uninterrupted parking of a vehicle at the same point on the public highway or its outbuildings, for a period exceeding seven days or for a period less than but exceeding that fixed by order of the authority vested with police power." (Article R417-12 of the Highway Code.)
Long term parking
Parking regulations on public roads accepting durations of 4 hours or more and up to several days. Opposes rotating parking .
Mixed paid parking
Paid parking where motorists of different statuses are admitted. Example: mixed rotating and residential parking.
Residential parking
Parking regulations providing for a specific status for the inhabitants of a zone concerned, provided with a permit. This is most often a derogation from a time limit or a preferential rate.
Rotating parking
Parking regulations on public roads with a maximum parking time generally between 1 hour and 3 hours. Opposes long-term parking .
Park
It is advisable to avoid the faulty formulation “se parker ” because this verb is not pronominal: one can “se parker” or “se parker but one “stationne”.
Overnormalization
Systematic creation of garage spaces beyond the standards of the PLU (Local Urban Plan), on the occasion of real estate operations which are carried out in the districts with the greatest shortage of parking spaces.
