As part of an objective to reduce individual car use, car sharing is proving to be a relevant solution. Indeed, people use a shared car less spontaneously than their own car.

The same car is used by several drivers, within the family unit, in the group of relatives, or even for profit with outsiders.

Associations and commercial companies make it their raison d'être. It follows that the need for parking decreases by as much: one car to park instead of several.

On the other hand, the car parks must be adapted to a new constraint: parking space accessible to a foreigner and even the development of car-sharing stations. The phenomenon affects roads and car parks. Sareco has followed the emergence of car-sharing in France by carrying out the evaluation of experiments since the 1990s. Its in-depth knowledge of the subject allows it to recommend this service wisely, to specify the conditions for its implementation and to estimate the impact on the quantities and the parking management method.

Content of the missions

Sareco assists local authorities in defining their development aid strategy for this new mode of travel, which offers considerable growth potential.
  • Analysis of the practices of the different types of car-sharing: car-sharing between individuals, direct/loop car-sharing
  • Definition of the legal and technical methods of possible intervention by the community
  • Definition of action plans

As part of an objective to reduce individual car use, car sharing proves to be a relevant solution. Indeed, people use a shared car less spontaneously than their own car.

This practice consists of grouping together to drive in a single personal car.

The owner of a parking can rent it if he does not use it at all, but he can also share it just when he is away.
