Tourism and leisure: sea, mountains and territories

Seaside resort, ski resort, places of art or history, places of scientific discovery… tourist sites are multifaceted but present common problems in terms of parking.

Parking problems at these tourist sites are partly typical, including:
  • standard problems for city centre users: saturation (real or perceived) of the road, but availability off the road (under-occupied private car parks, poorly marked, poorly positioned ground car parks, etc.);
  • the importance of the site's attractiveness, which is the condition for its continued operation.
However, they have specific characteristics such as:
  • the presence of seasonal employees;
  • peak visitor numbers during school holidays;
  • a request for visitors either for the day or for the week (from Saturday to Saturday);
  • adapted mobility management with temporary services during the season: opening of additional parking lots, pricing, shuttles to connect distant parks…;
  • the presence of snow for ski resorts: degradation of urban facilities, consideration of the dimensions of snowplows, management of snowdrifts, modification of ground level between summer and winter = "disappearance" of un-snowplowed street furniture.

Content of the missions

Sareco's intervention for these sites generally consists of:
  • estimate the usable parking capacity, both in and out of season
  • define management methods by type of user (permanent residents, second-home residents, commuters, tourists)
  • organize the modalities for variation in the parking supply, in quantity, regulation or price;
  • plan to accommodate specific requests: motorhomes, bicycles, events…
Stadium and convention center

Stadium-type facilities or convention centers have a low overall usage rate but generate significant one-off demands.

Tourism and leisure

Mall

Parking is a major issue for shopping centers, as they serve a large catchment area. Furthermore, for centers located on the outskirts of cities, or for large or heavy purchases (such as weekly grocery shopping), customers primarily arrive by car.

Hospital complexes

The evolution of hospital practices tends to densify hospital sites, often at the expense of surface parking, which requires a comprehensive approach to travel in order to correctly estimate future parking needs.

Social housing

Sareco regularly conducts missions on parking and travel in social neighborhoods, particularly within the framework of the National Urban Renewal Plans (PNRU).
